It’s no wonder why Sherry Willoughby has such a profound interest and appreciation for fine art. A resident of Martha’s Vineyard, Sherry has participated in virtually every capacity relating to the daily operations of family owned Willoughby Fine Art Gallery for nearly two decades. She is well versed in art history and the influences of important art movements that have so richly contributed to the varied styles and techniques expressed by contemporary painters.
Sherry has always considered the Barbizon period followed by the Impressionists as the movements that have most inspired her approach to painting the landscape. Additional influences from the American movement of the Hudson River School have also contributed to the development of her own painting philosophy and technique.
Sherry does not see the necessity of painting minute detail but would rather concentrate on the larger masses and value shifts which contribute a certain atmospheric quality to her work. She prefers understated color as demonstrated in tonal painting where all transitions are subtle, quieter and more peaceful. Sherry Willoughby enjoys an enthusiastic following of collectors nationally.
